Real estate is one of the largest purchases anyone will make, and it's a massively levered purchase. People don't really factor those things in, or am even the commensurate lost value that you got from not investing in something else. If you want to buy a home, go out and buy a home. But i don't think a lot of people will actually go through the process of factoring in what the costs are from renting versus buying.
