The History of Chain Letters

Early chain letters were made by people who often legitimately wanted to spread a religious message. Once the telegram and reliable postal service started to enable the mass transmission of these letters for the first time, things very quickly got out of hand. Because it works so well, scammers see opportunity. And so an unknown number of people make money off of this.
