Mao's Cultural Revolution starts in 1966 and basically lasts until his death in 1976. The goal of Mao's Cultural Revolution was to preserve Chinese communism by purging remnants of capitalist and traditional elements from Chinese society. In 1965, China established what is known as the TAR or the Tibet Autonomous Region. That word right there, autonomous, it basically says we're giving you a little bit of autonomy. It's kind of like that relationship between Native American reservations and boarding school to the BIA.
