Berlin to Regain Full Capital Roll
The German Parliament voted by a narrow margin today to move the seat of the federal government 359 miles eastward from bond. The vote taken after nearly 12 hours of vigorous and often bitter debate was 337 for Berlin and 320 for bond. Germany had just reunited and bond was still the capital of the federal Republic of Germany. But after the collapse of East Germany's hardline communist government in 1989 it became a major issue.
