Learning Is Like a Pearl

Long-term memory defines your horizons and you can have new horizons by trying to go beyond it. You are always or largely except for perhaps in situations of when you are completely immersed in things that are unfamiliar, using a lot of rote memorization actually. People don't even ask that question and it is just not part of what philosophy is about. Basically what happens is that something becomes a kind of focus of attention for a culture and they keep on returning to it also because they end up studying the greats of the past. That means they keep on repeating what happened in the past.
