Paulo Freire's Perpetual Cultural Revolution

New Discourses

CHAPTER

Markos Faith

Man takes as his own object, himself and the society he lives in. And so it can either happen unconsciously, which is kind of like natural selection, or it can be seized by the conscious. Marks believed that everything was downstream from economic and material conditions. That has all been kind of jettisoned in the past, maybe 50 years. Now the belief is that it's all politics, is downstream from culture. If you control the means of cultural production, then you can control how people come out. You can control man and society, seize the means of production of those by the conscious to direct it toward a liberated or emancipated, whatever fancy word they want to use.
