The Principle of Sufficient Reason
Chopin Howard's motivation is religious, that he's been influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism. He acknowledges with Kant that the only way that we know things in the ordinary sense is through what he calls the principle of sufficient reason. In other words, through our experience, through our eyes and ears, and then using our minds to make generalizations about that. And so what science is is just a bunch of patterning, noting regularities in things, and all causation is just like Hume.
