From the 1980s onward, anti-Catholicism shifted from Protestantism to secular forces. Catholics and Protestants found themselves united in their common stance against evils like sexual immorality. But some anti-Catholic bigotry could still be seen in conspiracy theories peddled by fundamentalists.
