The Problem of Uneven Development
David Harvey's student, Neil Smith, argues that uneven development is the engine of capital. Capital always wants to have another place to move and expand all of your productive capacity in order to either increase markets or get a better price for what it produces. In Detroit during the 70s, labor unions were extracting too much from capitalists; so they moved factories over seas.
