The Throne of the Vestal Virgin

Pliny the younger wrote a letter to one of his friends, cornelius minucians. In it he tells how domitian buried vestal virgin cornelia alive because she had accused him of incestum. The head priestess was outraged and called on vesta for help in getting her back into place. This is an avocative retelling of a moment which seems to be a criticism of domitian's tyranny.
