He was an accomplished forger. So he had made his counterfeit Italian passport with this fake identity. He goes to the laboratory, puts all of this stuff together, you know, finalizes building the bomb and then changes seats. Luckily, however, on this specific plane, the seats weren't aligned exactly how he thought they were. The fuel tanks were actually two rows behind where he sat.
