The History of Brown Sea Island

Maryland Village was built during the mid-1800s under the time of Colonel War. They built a big pottery factory and cottages for the people that worked there. After the wars fled their debts, the pottery business had collapsed. The next owners were Brantys Hade who came in at about 1901. Mary Bonham Routes left the island when she took it over in 1927. And then obviously after the last private owner, it fell to the National Trust.
