The Magnificat and the Songs of Simeon and Mary

Simeon and Mary are both singing about promises to Israel. There's something remarkable taking place here, something that exalts their people's response. The Magnificat has all sorts of callbacks to the prayer of Hannah upon the birth of Samuel. But then what she sees within this promise of a child is not just, oh, I have a child. I can enjoy domestic life in a new way.
