Al-Buruni and Sinner
Al-Buruni used trigonometry to calculate the height of a mountain. He stood on flat plains and measured angle between horizontal and peak. From this, he could form a simple geometrical model in shape of right angle triangle. Al-Buruni's work demonstrates his adherence to quantitative measurement. This led him to become deeply cynical about conclusions based on Aristotle's natural philosophy. His views put him at odds with contemporaries such as Ibn Sinner. The two men carried out a lengthy correspondence which has mostly survived.
