There's a very specific aesthetic associated with Zen Buddhism. And I think partly it was actually a result of the fact that Japan at that point was not a very rich country or a rich nation. There wasn't a ton of, you know, material construction or very fancy goods. But there was also this idea that aesthetic emptiness could be valuable.
