The Drypus Affair and the Birth of Anti Semitism

The drypus affair occurred under the third republic, when jews had all but vanished from important positions. If people have wealth without power, they are viewed as parasites that contribute nothing and it's just fuel for conspiracy theories. And so it is important to both sit id along a continuum of anti jewish hatred, while acknowledging the newness of it, the novelty of it. It's important to maintain this balance between the two to really grasp what had gone on.
