How to Make a Character Hyper-Competent
The Dread Pirate Robert is a great example of a character whose bars are for most of the story all the way to the top, and still is a great character. The other thing that you can do, I think, is to have your character apply a skill from another area of their life into something that is completely unexpected. And one of my favorite moments of that is the Donna Noble character in Doctor Who. She has brought her experience as a temp into this strange alien spaceship,.
