The Costs of Using Anonymous Publications for Controversial Ideas

For most of academic history, a very small number of people would read these papers. But we no longer live in that age where it's only academics who are exposed to the work. What you have is this snipping that can happen. And when you're in that environment, as you say, it makes it very hard for people to say things that could be held to be controversial unless they have a certain character attribute and then that narrows it down.
