Behind the Bastards

CHAPTER

The History of Malaga

In 1911, a whole home family was forced out of their home on the lagga for the very first time. That year, Malaga was declared by the state government to be part of Fipsburg. They also decided that a wealthy family from that town actually owned the island. The purpose of all this was laid out quite clearly in a 1968 article looking back on this moment. It was considered advisable for the good of society that these little settlements be broken up and persons incapable of working moved to a home for them. Maine was reputedly a wasteland with pockets of social indigence of low intelligence. But it's all a lie. We don't steal if we are poor.
