CHAPTER

Do You Know if Your Loved One Is at High Risk of Attempting Suicide?

Columbia University has developed a handy set of six questions that can help you figure out, whether your loved one is at high or low risk of attempt. You should ask them if they have a suicide plan, if they know what means they might use to kill themselves. Whiteside: For people struggling with suicidal thoughts, the urge to act on them can come very suddenly. The good news here is that these intense feelings are usually fleeting. They last about a day or two. Your job during this time is to help your loved one come down and not act on their feelings.
