The Social and Political Implications of Renewable Energy Projects in China

In your study of energy in China, did you look at the social and political implications of projects or were you just there to crunch the numbers as it were? We think and hope that China could take a series of measures in the way they operate their system that would require less backup from coal. The controversy is mainly over land use and fair compensation for land requisition. This can get quite acute in China. There's room for civil society input to a certain extent in what's called the social stability risk analysis part of the project permitting. To be honest, either the permitting process nor the legal system in China give close to the same weight to opposition from civil society.
