The experiment involved a unique combination of observational astronomy, theoretical cosmology, quantum optics and even aspects of the philosophy of science. From idea to completion, it took just over six years, which is actually pretty fast in science. And I think it's safe to say that the experiments exceeded beyond our wildest dreams. We ultimately chose Quasars because they're the brightest known astronomical objects at their distance.
