i wrote a long profile of godfrey that detailed his role in helping to create the intellectual foundations of the right. He was also, i should mention, at yale, a student of marcusa's for once master. I think what godfrey's best book is a book called after liberalism. The republicans can rail about the welfare state, but all they really mean is we don't want welfare for poor people.
