In our age of moment by moment news, we're exposed to so much tragedy that it just sort of bounced off. We may limit the amount of joy we feel and express because we're always waiting for the other foot to drop. One reason why you may not be able to mourn is that you have trouble sympathizing with the person that you feel superior to. Some of us are uncomfortable weeping with those who weep but can do something about it.
