The Importance of Listening to Boys
I think we need to remind ourselves that boys are actually very keen to talk about their problems. The chapter on friendship shows that boys crave absolutely crave emotional intimacy with other boys. But when it comes to the listening thing, there are things that boys simply do not do. Girls are far more likely, for example, just to nod, nod and do those kind of nonverbal cues that say, I am listening to you. So as teachers getting better at modeling good listening behaviors so that boys can learn how to listen is a really important task.
