The article really is about temporality. It's about minimalism and the ways in which minimalism is creating a very different time. The essay meant to do was to say, now it works in a different way. Now this should resonate with what I was saying about the 16th and 17th century. And so I wanted to talk about why composers might have wanted to turn away from the power of that teleological trajectorythat total music has.
