Omshine Ricchio began construction on theirs in 1988 in the foothills of Mount Fuji outside of Tokyo. The compound was constantly infested with roaches because Asahara said to kill the roaches would be to accrue bad karma. In another master stroke of profit, Asahara charged $2,000 for weak, long meditation seminars. Participants were made to sleep on dirt floors and were served only one meal of boiled vegetables a day.
