Wampanoag Folklore: The Pukwaji

The Freetown State Forest is the quintessential haunted forest. There have been reports of hauntings near the ledge, of visions and ghostly figures. One report was made by two undertakers who were traveling past the swamp on Halloween night in 1908. Some researchers think they know where those lights come from too. They're the tools of a creature known as the Pukwaji.
