Williams's Life and Work

In 19 39 he accepted a position at howard university, thus moving to america not long after james. In 19 forty two williams published his first book, the negro and the caribbean. It featured a forward by allan locke, praising williams as perfect person to reflect on the past, present and future of the region. John dewey wrote that while the creation of a university of the west indies was the immediate occasion of the book, williams found himself obliged to go into many of the most important problems that occupy this troubled world.
