i guest researchers went about building a programm that could be and chess was just a different method. He's got one here where he says that a thinking computer might not be able to add very quickly, because it will take like, too much prossing power in the brain. So i think part of his argument as well is that if it is a thinking machine, then it too must have lower level processes that it cannot access.
The strange loop phenomenon occurs whenever by moving upwards or downwards through the levels of some hierarchical system, we unexpectedly find ourselves right back where we started.
Godel Escher Bach is one of the most complex books Neil and I have ever read. It will have you thinking about minds, intelligence, AI, and reality in an entirely new way.
