The Changes in Channel Capacity Over Time

There are actually two components to flood hazard and what changes flood hazard over time. The first is obviously changes in the hydrology, changes in the frequency of stream flow. But there are also changes in the capacity of river channels. For example, if a river channel decreases substantially over time and the frequency of flows remains the same, that channel will flood much more frequently.
