The advent of kafka ou kno, with the advent of semistructure data is what we call a real time data base. Now every year there's more information generated than all the previous years combined. You can get speed in an application if you don't expect that to be good scale and storage optimise. But it's usually prohibitively expensive to build a real time application on top of this kind of system.
