When Broadway Was Black by John Cussine

The Black piano style of that period, the early 20s? The Stride bass. Big giant reaping stride bass and then active filigrees and four note chords up on the top. Art Tatum does a lot of it in modern stereo recordings with his left and his right hand. But that goes back to when Gershwin was amazed. He could play that way. There are recordings of him playing the piano that way. And all of it starts, he gets hot when Black Broadway gets hot. That's something that you never quite see put forth in the mainstream musical theater histories. I think it's a racism of neglect.
