The Importance of Antigen Negatives
The antigen-negative concept is generally pretty simple to understand because they think of it kind of sort of like we think about with red cells. One has an anti-big K. We give them big K negative red cells. But occasionally, clinicians and pathologists say, well, wait a minute, what about cross-reactive HLA antibodies? Do you worry about those? I really have seen both on the clinical side and from the blood center side very little difference in terms of response. Whatever you can get the most rapidly is the product of choice in those scenarios.
