The Role of Plate Tectonics in the Evolution of Life on Earth

Io is one of the moons of Jupiter, and it's about the same size as our moon. The Voyager saw several volcanic plumes rising like hundreds of kilometers above the surface. So there's definitely stuff going on inside there. But we haven't actually seen plate tectonics on Io as well. It might not be an automatic thing for every planet to have it.
