The Hegemony of Mexican American Culture in LA
I think when I first moved to LA, I was not used to people calling a Latinos Mexican. Growing up where I grew up, there was a lot of Salvadoran kids around or Guatemalan kids. To them, they were just like, you're Mexican, and then I sort of just viewed myself that way. And then as I got older and my friends were other things like other types of Latino, this term just Latino took over for me. Now that I'm older, I understand the context of what it being a Chicano is but I didn't grow up with it.
