Pillsbury acquired Burger King, a fast-growing McDonald's competitor in 1967. But unlike the competition, Pillsbury decided to radically slow down expansion. By the mid-70s, McDonald's became the largest provider of meals in the United States. The new double-deck burger selling for twice as much as a traditional hamburger.
