The Stalin-Mao Relationship
After Stalin died, when Khrushchev delivered his secret speech condemning Stalin, Mao finally jumped at the opportunity of venting all his pent up resentments against the deceased Soviet dictator. He complained about how Stalin had hadn't allowed the CCP to make revolution and that he'd been made to swallow bitter pills by conceding joint ventures in Xinjiang and Manchuria. At the very same time, Mao also jumped at the chance of using Stalin as a stick to beat his successor Khrushchev. What this suggests is that Mao's real animosity was probably not directed against either Stalin or Khrushchev so much as against Soviet domination in general.
