The Gospel and the Bourgeois Type

In an essay, Francis of Assisi says that the Christian ethos is essentially anti-Bourgeois since it is the ethos of love. He defines two types of fundamental spiritualities, open and closed. The appeal of Christianity is to an immense nobility that scorns accumulation. It's against this closed, self-sufficient, moralistic ethic that fiercest denunciations of the gospel are directed.
