The Emergence of Neuroscience
As a neuroscientist, what should I expect to observe? Should I expect to see neurons firing in some region without any physical cause that I could describe at the level of the neurons themselves? Well, that's an empirical question. It's a very difficult question. But we're going to have an expectation that at some point we have to make reference to holistic features in order to fully understand how the elements themselves are behaving.
