How Much Influence Does Culture Have on Smell?
Aromogede from the university of oxford says we are genetically almost built to profer certain smells over others. People across the world all really liked the smell of vanilla, and they least liked isovaleric acid which smells a little bit like sweaty feet. Only six percent of the data could be explained by culture. And then there were some individual differences too, but culture plays a very small role.
