In 17 91, enslaved people on the island of St. Maarten set fire to their plantations in a revolt against white rule. The uprising was led by toussaint louverture and his fellow-elvis bugman dotty. Toussaint is thought to be an ungon or kind of, i guess in ar parlance, a vodu priest. He gave this speech that inspired them to rebel: "Our god asks only good works of us"
