The Importance of Understanding Trends
Tom Zoellner: I find one of the most interesting confusions, especially with new traders, and even the most experienced people is the word trend. To me, there's two parts of all the data that you get in price information. There's noise, which if you sat there all day, you would be completely mesmerized by all the activity. At some point, prices move sufficiently through the noise and start going beyond what is normal noise. Once it evolves out of the noise, I consider it a trend. It may be a one day trend and turn around and go back into the noise, but for that one day, it was a trend.
