Rand: We don't know what the training backgrounds looked like for these people. Rand maybe the higher the moderate strength squatters were genetically predisposed to hypertrophy more, but maybe had trained a little bit less. And so that's how they wound up with lower squat strength, but greater lean body mass. But i do think this is indirect evidence against that idea that building strength and achieving greater strength per unit of muscle mass will help you break through hypertrophy plateaus.
