The Battle of Kadesh
Ramesses II would be deified during his lifetime and idolised after it. Egypt was still strong at the end of the 13th century BCE when he did eventually make his journey to the afterlife. At this point the Hittite kingdom as a whole was facing dire times. The once powerful Hittites were progressively being weakened by the mighty Assyrians to its east and the rebellious tribes to its north and west. As for the Egyptians after the lifetime of Ramesses II the new kingdom seemed to fall apart from within in a slow drawn out death of a golden age brought about by internal descent and external attacks from both land and sea. Egyptian lands would then be largely subject to various foreign rulers
