The judge in the Argentina facial recognition case laid out a roadmap for how to do it legally. The US is not necessarily close to reaching that point just based on how we view privacy. I wouldn't anticipate that this is going to spread to the United States anytime soon because of differences in our priorities, constitutions, political culture, etc.
