How Do You Approach Diplomacy?

We started by focusing on a simplified version of Diplomacy called no press diplomacy. Around the same time, there were researchers from the University of Milla and DeepMind also was working on no press diplomacy that involved deep neural nets. So they did supervised learning on this data set and came up with a bot that plays in a very human like style. It's not an amazing bot, but it was the first real application of modern AI techniques to the game of diplomacy. And so, yeah, we decided to focus on this non-language version of the game as well.
