Shrove Tuesday - The Day Before Lent
Shrove t Tuesday is pancake day. Shrove comes from the old anglo saxon verb shrive, to shrive, which means to take somebody's confession. The season for making confession begins on shrove sunday and goes until the end of shrove tuesday itself. And so it's an opportunity for two things before lent begins. One is to binge in all the food and drink that you're not allowed to consume in lent - even among married couples. And the other is to unburden your conscience of the sins you think you've com ted by confessing them to a priest, so you are now ready to scrub your soul clean by the fast
