The Laws of Draco
Draco's laws codify debt slavery, instituted the death penalty for even minor offenses. His laws replace the family and kin with the state as the arbiter of justice in cases of both intentional and unintentional killings. If a relative kills the murderer, he will be banished from setting foot in the Athenian Agora, or the Acropolis. The laws are notorious for the harshness of their punishments.
