The Legacy of a Distortion
Fardo performances take place during a meal but patrons are not permitted to talk while the singers perform. Between sets await a whisked round distributing courses and shushing anyone who spoke over the fiddistas. Women must wear a shawl, it's traditional for the guitar to be only played on the left and the men sing with one hand in their pocket. Fardo music used as a propaganda tool under the long dictatorship which began under Estado Nova.
